There
are so many great singer-songwriters out there in the folk/alt
country/country genre - local, national, international - it's hard to keep
up - but it sure is fun trying!
Local Seattle acts that really turn my crank:
Reggie
Garrett is a big favorite of mine. His music and vocals will find
you taking nice easy breaths and relaxing into your chair. ThorNton
Creek (because I'm in the group now, see). Their new CD Six Times Stronger is
quite pleasing to the ear. Eva
Tree is one of my new favorite groups. (Eva is going on tour with
me in Spring 2004!) Check out your local calendar listing for performances around
town! Have you seen Armadillo
Borealis? Country/rock to the max. Look for them! And Joy Mills just released her debut
CD - you really should get out to see her! Christy
McWilson is also quite fine. Great vocals; great lyrics. I
wait in great anticipation for her next CD. Neko Case (can I put her
in local favorites??) rocks, of course.
My newest favorite is Lynn Miles
(Canada). Her newest CD, Unravel, is wonderful.
Her voice sends me to the moon, Alice, the MOON! Check her out!
And I still have a soft spot for Lucinda Williams,
Gillian
Welch, Robert Earl Keen, Darden
Smith, Lucy
Kaplansky, Eliza Gilkyson and Slaid
Cleaves. I've also recently found Mark
Erelli - love his stuff!
If you haven't heard Kasey
Chambers you should treat yourself! She's a country
singer-songwriter from Australia. Sound funny? Yep. But she grew
up on Hank Williams.
